Crate Training for the Puppy

Some free dog training tips to help you with crate training. Let me start by giving you some tips on an appropriate crate for your puppy.
Enclosed small places usually make puppies feel more secure. Having his own private space, like a crate, works because it helps him feel safe. Some people think that using a crate is like putting the puppy in jail. You should never use the crate to punish him.
The size of the crate is very important. It should be big enough to accommodate him. A larger crate is fine if he will grow into it. You can use some type of partition to keep the crate smaller until the puppy grows. Make sure he has enough space inside to lie down, turn around, and stand up comfortably.
You can use the following dog training tips to introduce your puppy to the crate. Let him explore it, inside and outside. He may just sniff around it at first, but he will get curious enough to go inside, becoming at ease with the structure after a while. You can begin by having the puppy go in the crate and stay there for 20 minutes at a time. Placing a cover over top of the cage will help if he starts to whine, it will make. You can also put a toy or blanket inside with him. If he still whines, ignore it, he’ll be fine for 20 minutes.
Once he has been in the crate for twenty minutes, take him out and then put him outside to potty. If he does, don’t forget to praise him for it. Once he is back inside, play with him for a half hour or so. Then try placing him in the crate again. If he doesn’t want to go in, place a treat inside. When he enters praise him and close the door. Try another twenty minutes. Puppies can be confined for an hour for each month old they are plus one hour. If your puppy is three months old, he should be able to build up to four hours.
You should never leave puppies in the crate any longer than eight hours. At regular intervals, they need to be let out, to exercise and potty. Setting a schedule and following it, is the best way for a new puppy. He will learn what to expect and do it with very little fuss. This is just one of the pieces of dog training equipment you will need to train your puppy.
