Getting your puppy to adjust to wearing a collar and being led by a leash is another thing you need to teach him. You can train him easily with a little patience and a lot of praise. You can start by wearing a collar on him around the house and later add the leash.
Digging is something else that a puppy loves to do, as it is an important part of their nature. Don’t get frustrated when your puppy wants to dig. You will be able to accommodate your puppy by giving him an area to himself so he won’t dig holes in your yard. If you keep him indoors, you can get him a small children’s pool or sandbox. Fill it with soil or sand to give him something easy to dig in. When he gets a bit older, maybe obedience training classes might be a good idea to help him to get his digging habits under control.
The information above can be a great aide when you start training your puppy. Although you`ll need to have patience, a puppy can be wonderful addition to your family. Even though dogs are very smart, it will take them time to learn. Once they start learning however - they will become an integral part of your family that you couldn`t begin to live without.
Housetraining your puppy takes patience. Keeping a diary for several days to figure out his eating and eliminating habits is a good place to start. Most dogs need to be taken out three to five times a day providing they haven’t drunk an excessive amount of water. The best thing to do if you take him walking is not to bring him back until he does potty. This could take some time, but if you bring him back in before he is ready, he will probably have an accident inside before you can get him back outside again.
A very important factor in training him is to give him praise each and every time he does something right. This helps a great deal because he likes the attention and the treats. If you wait to praise him it won’t be as effective. To keep him from finding certain areas to eliminate on, make sure to close doors to rooms with carpet which is what they prefer.
If the puppy does have an accident, use a pet odor neutralizer to prevent any odor.
